My Daughter: Trouble at School
Every mom dreads the day that they get a note sent home with their child to report a problem. Since I taught my kids at home almost all of their lives, I never had to experience? that issue. However, my children wanted the "high school experience" and their dad enrolled them in a private Christian school. .It has been an adjustment for me to not have say in everything that they learn and I have missed reading with them and discussing things that we learn together. However, this has been a good experience for them because it is preparing them for college and they can know the joys of quirky teachers, rules and severe homework..Today, I got an e-mail that had the subject line "Confidential Behavioral Notice for Lindsey _______". .Shit..What did she do? She can be a smart ass and she is occasionally unprepared for class. Just looking at it among all of the other things in my inbox, I had to read it before anything else. After all, it was "confidential" and it involved some type of bad behavior. I opened it and read it with horror:.This email is to inform you of a behavior event that has been recorded for your child (Lindsey). The details of the event are listed below:.Date of Event: 12/06/2010.Reported By: (Name of teacher was here but to protect her privacy, I am removing it).Event: Dress code violation.Description: Shirt untucked.Consequence 1: (Dec 6 2010) < Demerit A >.Demerits: 0.3 . I'm sure you can all just imagine how concerned I am about my little rebel, not to mention the sheer embarrassment of having a child that doesn't tuck her shirt in. (NOT). I seriously cannot believe someone actually took the time to write this up and clutter my inbox with it. Send me an e-mail if she gets caught smoking or fails an assignment, but I think a teacher should be able to handle an untucked shirt without involving a parent. I hope the kids are enjoying their experience...I know I am!
