Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Signs Law Giving Married Couples Priority in Adoption
Senate Bill 1188, which was sponsored by Sen. Linda Gray (R-Glendale) states that if all other criteria for adoptive parents are equal, preference will be given to married couples in that state. Arizona does not recognize marriage between lesbian and gay couples. Opponents argued that this new law will discourage single people and gay and lesbian couples from adopting by making that process more difficult for them.
