Business bets on the gays

Business bets on the gays

[...] some of the most important victories in the battle for gay rights these days are backed by a virtual "who's who" of Fortune 500 companies.

In the other corner are executives like Amazon's Jeff Bezos, who just donated $2.5 million to Washington state's battle to keep same-sex marriage legal.

Old-line brands like General Mills and Nabisco have taken similar stands in favor of gay rights, and others like J.C. Penney and Target are featuring gay-themed advertisements.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could not have passed same-sex marriage in his state without the help of Wall Street Republicans like Paul Singer, a billionaire hedge fund manager who happens to have a gay son.

[...] when it comes to the business community, San Francisco companies have been in the forefront of having non-discrimination policies that protect gay and lesbian employees.

[...] the vast majority of gays and lesbians will no doubt benefit from their allies in the business world, as those holdouts like Chick-fil-A see their policies tossed out of the frying pan and into the fire.
