Supes' S.F.-style welcome for archbishop
San Francisco's new Catholic archbishop, the Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, will take office Thursday at a Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral - and if he hadn't already figured it out, Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting made it clear that he's likely in for a rough ride.
Helping hand: A $1 million infusion of cash will launch a new dropout prevention program for Bay Area high school seniors, offering high-tech and corporate internships through the nonprofit Genesys Works.
The cash is part of a $250 million pool of money from the AT&T Aspire initiative to support programs across the country that offer disadvantaged and at-risk students support to finish high school and offer opportunities beyond.
"With (the AT&T) support we can change the life trajectory of vulnerable students who live in one of the most advanced regions in the world and help them believe a professional, meaningful career is within reach," said Rafael Alvarez, founder and CEO of Genesys Works.
