Ellen Page Comes Out

As I watched Ellen Page make her coming out speech at the HRC Time to THRIVE event, I wondered to myself, why now? Why has she chosen this moment to come out? As I listened to her talk, it was clear that being in the closet was burdensome to her psyche. She talked about the toll being in the closet had on her spirit and her relationships. She talked about wanting to make life easier for others. And she will. Every time someone comes out, no matter who, it makes life easier for those who come after. I don't know why she chose this moment to come out. The when isn't as important as the fact that she did.  Thank you, Ellen Page. You've just made your life a lot easier and you've done the same for someone else, who you may never know or meet. Coming out still matters in 2014.
