ACLU Files Lawsuit for Illegally Arrested Florida Man
The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit on Monday stating that Florida police violated a gay man?s civil rights when they illegally arrested him in March of last year. Harold Strickland was arrested after calling 911 to report two police officers who were beating a handcuffed man near a park in Miami Beach. The ACLU is seeking unspecified damages on Strickland?s behalf, contending that he was arrested in retaliation for his phone call and that the officers lied about how and why he was arrested. (The charges were eventually dropped against Strickland.) The two officers have been suspended with pay, while investigations are ongoing.Related Media Coverage:Miami Herald ?
