Marines Soon Expected to Begin Training for "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Repeal
Maj. Gen. Richard Mills of the Marine Corps spoke with reporters on Thursday about the progress of the repeal of ?Don?t Ask, Don?t Tell? and said that most troops in Afghanistan will have participated in classes before they return home. It was the first time he went into some detail about what the preparation entails, including formal classes, discussion groups, and ?extensive? training to ensure that each person understands the new rules. Troops will examine ethics and appropriate behavior in hypothetical situations. Gen. Mills reviewed the educational material and commented, ?I really don?t think it?s going to be earthshaking?Young Marines will be receptive to it.?The Marine Corps was previously the most critical branch of the military regarding the change, but has since pledged to implement it to the best of their ability. Classes? instructors will be trained in the next month, and as service members return from the battlefield, they will have time to rest before focusing on the classes. Most troops will begin while still deployed, and others will be trained on home bases.Related Media Coverage:New York Times ? February 17, 2011?War Troops to Undergo ?Don?t Ask?
