Day2: Even Kids Know that Homophobia is Wrong
12 year old Sam Maden is my hero of the day. When his uncle unexpectedly passed away, Sam wanted to do something to honor his uncle, who was passionate about the issue of anti-gay bullying. Before his death, Sam's uncle gave Sam a necklace from The Trevor Project, an organization that provides "life-saving and life-affirming resources including (a) nationwide, 24/7 crisis intervention lifeline, digital community and advocacy/educational programs that create a safe, supportive and positive environment for everyone." Photo: The AdvocateSam has made an appeal to The Boston Red Sox to make an "It Gets Better" video to encourage young people who are gay to know that as bad as things might seem to them now, it does get better. Study after study shows that GLBT youth are at much higher risk for suicide than their heterosexual teen counterparts. You can help Sam reach his goal by going HERE and signing the petition. He only needs 75 more signatures to reach his goal. Sam, thank you for doing something to help young people who are mistreated just for being who they are. You are my hero!
