Lesbian Academics
.I just got my latest report card. It had 3 more A's on it helping maintain my 4.0 GPA. I bust my hiney to get excellent grades. First of all, I like a free education, which is what mine is because my grades are so good. Secondly, I like scholarships. In fact, I have won 3 this year. None of them have been much, but if people want to give me money here and there because I am a good student, that is certainly not a problem for me. Thirdly, I want to make sure that all of my professors and classmates know that the best student there is gay. I really feel an obligation to represent the LGBT community in the most positive light possible. I never start off announcing that I am gay, but I usually try to work it in after everyone has already fallen in love with me and it works like a charm. Even the cranky fundamental evangelicals, after we talk Jesus for a few weeks, seem to be able to adjust to learning that their sister in Christ is also a "sister". Most important of all, though, the reason I try so very hard in school is because I want to set a good example for my children. If their mom, who sometimes cannot remember why she is standing in the hallway, can get straight A's, there is simply no good excuse why they with their healthy, fresh minds and solid homeschooled background, cannot do the same.
