Constructing Your Proverbial Home

I have recently had the pleasure if introducing two good friends to each other and seeing them connect in a very special way.I feel nervous because they are two people that I really love- two friends who I have helped move through their past break-ups (and who helped me move past mine).  I love them both so much and want to see their relationship be successful.  I wish them both the kind of love that everyone hopes they might find one day. When one of them asked me for any last minute life coaching, I just replied to her with this:Think of starting your new relationship this way: You are about to start building a house that you hope to be able to live in forever.  You want to lay a firm foundation and give it the right time to cure.  If you rush it and start building on it, there will be cracks that cause problems later.  Use the highest quality construction materials you can afford.  Be meticulous with your craftsmanship.  Build it with the idea that you want to be able to live in it for the rest of your life and you should be great! When building something new, time is your friend.  It's very easy when you have some unmet need (sex, a need to feel desired, a need to not be alone...) to move past the stage of getting to know someone and get to that part where your needs/wants are being satisfied.  Right now, I would love to have someone to come home to.  I'd love to have someone to cook for.  Or take a yoga class with.  Or to lay on the bed next to me while I do homework and she reads a book - our legs intertwined while I absentmindedly caress her back. I would love that...I know that there are women that I could call today who would be happy to give me this.  But ultimately, my goal isn't short term satisfaction.  I am building a house that I want to live in forever.  The girl may or may not be here yet, but be sure that I am already laying a foundation.  I will be using only the best materials and I will be meticulous with my craftsmanship.  I want to construct it with the rest of my life in mind.  Even if I'm the only one who lives there.
