CHICAGO, Illinois -- Former San Diego Padres star William Daro "Billy" Bean, who came out in 1999, will be among the Class of 2014 inductees in the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.
Bean finished his Major League Baseball career with the Padres, playing in San Diego from 1993 to 1995. He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1989) and the Detroit Tigers (1987-89). The left-handed hitter had a career batting average of .226 and played in the outfield.
