RALEIGH, North Carolina -- After being dealt a late-night legal setback in their fight against the legalization of same-sex marriage in North Carolina, attorneys for Republican leaders met a tight deadline Friday to persuade a judge to let them join the pending lawsuits.
Now they want Judge William Osteen to hear those arguments in person.
Osteen denied a request by GOP legislative leaders that their lawyers be given eight days to get up to speed on the 2-year-old marriage case and file expanded arguments on why they should be allowed to join in.
