A Conversation With Linsdey
.Last night, I went to my son's first football game of his senior year. He saw a lot of playtime as a lineman (offensive tackle, mostly). There was a certain play that my son was in where a boy on his team looked to be knocked out cold. I didn't see my son and fear seized my heart. Then, I thought I might have been mistaken about him being in the play and scanned the players on the sidelines for his number 65 shirt. Not there!!! I started to get ready to run out there when I saw him walking away from the downed player. Relief! Not my kid. Sorry for the injured boy but thank God my son was safe!.Today, I was talking to my kids about it. My daughter missed the game so I was re-telling the story to them in the car. Here is how that conversation went:.Me: "....so I was about to start hopping fences and race out onto the field yelling 'Outta my way, bitches!' when Papa pointed Nick out. Melissa told me if I had gone out there like that, Nick would forever be known as the kid whose mommy ran out onto the field. I just think that he would forever be known as the kid whose mommy could outrun any player on that team when her son is hurt.".Lindsey: "No, mom. Nick would forever be known as the kid whose mommy yelled 'Outta my way, bitches' before tumbling down the bleachers and knocking herself out.".I get no respect.

More Maryland Senators Supporting Marriage; Vote Expected Next Week
Two more Maryland state senators have expressed public support for the marriage equality legislation that is being considered by the General Assembly. This increases the number of senators who have said they would vote for the bill to 24?the minimum majority needed for approval in the 47-member Senate. ?I think it?s the fair thing to do,? said Sen. Katherine A. Klausmeier on Monday, and Sen. Edward J. Kasemeyer added, ?I don?t see how you can deny the right.? Kalusmeier had publicly struggled with her position on the bill. The Senate Judiciary Proceedings Committee has scheduled a vote for Thursday, and seven of the 11 members say they hope to send the bill forward. The bill will likely reach the Senate floor next week. If it passes, it will move on to the House, which has traditionally been the more liberal of the two chambers regarding social policy. Gov. Martin O?Malley has said he would sign the bill if it comes to his desk.Related Media Coverage:The Washington Post ? February 15, 2011?Md. Senate ? Largest Remaining Hurdle to Same-Sex Marriage ? Hate Crime Perpetrator Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison
On Thursday, January 20, 22-year-old Daniel Rodriguez of Queens, N.Y., was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attacking Jack Price outside of a deli in 2009. Price, who is openly gay, was beaten and subjected to gay slurs by Rodriguez after being falsely accused of vandalism. 50-year-old Price suffered from a broken jaw, broken ribs and two collapsed lungs, rendering him physically incapable of continuing his job as a superintendent in College Point, Queens. Price relies on a daily dosage of pain pills and has lost both his peripheral vision and hearing in his right ear. "I didn't deserve this," Price said. "I cannot understand how anyone could hate me or anybody else this much to cause him this much pain and suffering...It shows how much hate they have inside of them." Before Queens Supreme Court Judge Barry Kron, Rodriguez was remorseful, saying, ?Through the grace of God I hope someday Jack Price will forgive me.? Daniel Aleman, Rodriguez?s 27-year-old codefendant, was sentenced to eight years in prison last month.Related Media Coverage:New York Daily News - January 21, 2011"Queens Gay Basher Daniel Rodriguez Gets 12 Years in Prison for Attack Outside Deli"http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2011/01/21/2011-01-21_queens_gay_basher_daniel_rodriguez_gets_12_years_in_prison_for_attack_outside_de.html?r=news
