Gender Non-Discrimination Act Passes Maryland House Committee
The Maryland House?s Health and Government Operations Committee voted 15-8 on Friday to pass the Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act. The act would prohibit discrimination against transgender and gender non-conforming people in Maryland in housing, employment, licensing, and commercial leasing. "Every Marylander should expect to work or live in comfortable housing without fear of losing either because of who they are. HB 235 provides the protection necessary to make sure that every Marylander can live without fear of discrimination," said Del. Joseline Pena-Melnyk, the lead sponsor of the bill. It is expected to move to the House of Delegates for a full vote before Tuesday morning and will subsequently go to the Senate.Related Media Coverage:Metro Weekly ?
