States May Provide More Health Care Benefits for LGBT Couples
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services report that President Obama is close to informing state-run Medicaid programs about offering more long-term health care benefits and protections for domestic partners that are similar to those that heterosexual married couples receive. ?We are working on new guidance in this area, which we expect to issue very soon,? said spokeswoman Mary Kahn. The guidance will offer ways in which current law offers certain freedoms and flexibilities that allow more equal treatment for gay and lesbian couples, but state-run programs will not necessarily be required to adopt these protections.Related Media Coverage:New York Times ?
