Indiana Protestors Forced to Leave Senate Gallery for Supporting Marriage
On Monday, the Indiana Senate president David Long closed the Senate gallery after a number of constituents interrupted debate on a constitutional amendment that would ban marriage for gay and lesbian couples. The participants began chanting ?Stop hating, stop dividing, stop pandering? in the Senate balcony after legislators started to discuss the issue. Long ordered the balcony seating closed, and as the approximately 40 protestors marched out, they chanted ?Jobs, not hate.?Indiana?s proposed ban would prohibit both marriage and civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. It passed the House overwhelmingly, with support from nearly all Republicans and some Democrats. The Senate is expected to vote on it later this week, and if passed, it will then be brought to a referendum before it can be added to the state constitution.Related Media Coverage:IndyStar.com ?
