West Virginia Bill to Protect Gay and Lesbian Workers Dies

A West Virginia bill that would protect residents from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation died in the state House earlier this month after the legislature failed to act before the session closed. The state, which already protects residents on the basis of race, religion and level of ability, was considering a bill that would extend these workplace protections to the state's gay and lesbian community. "For this year, it's obviously dead," acting Senate President Jeff Kessler told reporters. Kessler says he will work to amend the proposed anti-bullying bill to include sexual orientation for the next legislative session. Related Media CoverageWest Virginia Gazette -- March 5, 2011"W.
