Lesbian health activist remembered after tragic death

Mourners gathered at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Monday to celebrate the life of Christina Santiago and the other victims killed in last weekend?s stage collapse.

Santiago, 29, was one of five people who died Saturday when stormy weather and winds rolled through the fairgrounds, knocking over the stage.

Originally from the Bronx, Santiago, managed programming for the Lesbian Community Care Project at Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago.

"She was a bright star,? HBHC CEO Howard Brown told ABC7 News in Chicago. ?If she were here today -- she would come in and she would still be doing her job. She would be thinking about what's next for the community and how to help."

"We have lost a fierce warrior and an amazing activist," Rosa Yadira, friend and member of Amigas Latinas told the station.

Alisha Brennon, Santiago?s partner of more than two years, was seriously injured in the stage collapse. Brennon is a graphic designer at a law firm in Chicago's Loop.

The Indiana State Fair reopened on Monday.
