Houston Man Charged With Murder of Transgender Woman, Suspected in Others

A Houston homeless man named Lucky Ward was charged on Monday with capital murder in the death of a 40-year-old transgender woman known as Gypsy, who was found dead in her apartment on September 13, 2010. Ward had previously been charged with the murder of Reita L. Long, a 52-year-old Houston woman who ?was found dead on September 30,? according to the Houston Chronicle. He is also suspected in a number of other homicides, including that of another transgender woman named Myra Chanel Ical. Cristan Williams, the executive director of the Houston-based Transgender Foundation of America commented, ?In the past, HPD hasn?t had a great record of solving transgender murder.
