Kelly Cassidy Becomes Third Openly Gay Member of the Illinois House of Representatives

On Monday, Kelly Cassidy was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Illinois House of Representatives.  The appointment makes Cassidy - a lesbian and mother of three - the body's third openly gay member.  She joins Greg Harris and Deb Mell. Cassidy was unanimously chosen to represent Illinois' 14th district, filling the seat being vacated by Harry Osterman. Cassidy, who currently serves as the director of programs and development for the Cook County state attorney's office, will join the legislature on May 16.Recent Media Coverage:The Advocate - April 18, 2011"Lesbian Named to Ill.
