White House Excluded Advocacy Group from Military Event

Servicemembers United, an advocacy group for lesbian and gay military personnel, criticized the White House?s decision to bar the organization from attending a military event held on Tuesday. The event, hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, marked the official start of the ?Joining Forces? initiative, created to forge a support system for military families. In a written statement, Kristina Schake, spokesperson for Michelle Obama, referenced ?Don?t Ask, Don?t Tell,? saying, "The White House, including the first lady and Dr. Biden, look forward to working with the families of gay and lesbian service members after certification occurs and repeal goes into effect." Servicemembers United Director Alexander Nicholson argues that this explanation makes no sense, as the organization would not have sent someone to the event who is currently enlisted and subject to the law.Related Media Coverage:FOXNews.com - April 12, 2011"Gay Advocacy Group Challenges White House Over Exclusion From Military Event"http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/04/12/gay-advocacy-group-complains-exclusion-military-families-event/
