I know they're nice, but they're not for me!

I'm in an amazing relationship, with someone I've known for over two years, and we've been dating for a year-ish. We're both women in our early 20's. I've only dated women up to this point, and been very happy with that. It seems that my brain doesn't want to keep that status quo anymore and is trying to convince me I want to experience being with men. I don't want to be with men. I don't like men as well as women, I prefer women sexually, and I love my girlfriend an extreme amount. We're very happy and healthy. I like the idea of being with men, and I had a good experience with the one guy I've seen (see next paragraph). I just know I'm happiest with her, and the few benefits of dating guys wouldn't make up for how much I care about her and how happy she makes me.

This doesn't bother me often. But the last time I had these urges, I ended up breaking it off with her abruptly, seeing the guy for a few weeks, and then ending that because it wasn't what I wanted. She took me back. I will not do that again. I don't want to break up ever, but I definitely won't break up with her for a stupid fling.

How do I ignore these feelings? I don't care that I'm sexually attracted to both genders. Not a big deal. The problem is that I start to think about men too much in what-if hypotheticals, and that makes me anxious. That anxiety makes me question the relationship in ways I wouldn't if I were thinking clearly. And then that leads to me distancing myself from my girlfriend. And then it snowballs.

I know I need to talk to someone about this, but I don't want to bring it up with her because of last time. I just need tips on how to rationalize this to myself and convince myself that this is not the end of the world that my brain wants me to think it is. And I do not want to break up with her.

Montana GOP policy: Make homosexuality illegal

HELENA, Mont. (AP) – At a time when gays have been gaining victories across the country, the Republican Party in Montana still wants to make homosexuality illegal.

The party adopted an official platform in June that keeps a long-held position in support of making homosexual acts illegal, a policy adopted after the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.

The fact that it’s still the official party policy more than 12 years later, despite a tidal shift in public attitudes since then and the party’s own pledge of support for individual freedoms, has exasperated some GOP members.

“I looked at that and said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me,’” state Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson, said last week. “…

Letters to the Editor

Letter to the editor:

Last night I attended the Hillcrest Town Council to listen to Todd Gloria, Carl DeMaio, debate Prop D. This was supposed to be an informational forum. Carl DeMaio, it appears, does not understand the word “decorum” as he continuously and viciously attached Todd Gloria, along unions and with the labor movement in general. DeMaio came across as a nasty bully. Probably a carry over from his childhood. Mr. DeMaio was a guest in Todd Gloria’s district but proceeded in his usually manner - that of an attach dog DeMaio periodally rolled his eyes or made faces behind Councilman Gloria’s back while the councilman spoke on the subject. DeMaio was plan rude and owes Councilman an apology.

As for the Unions and the Lab…

Prop 8 backers target trial judge in urging appeal

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Backers of California’s same-sex marriage ban urged a federal appeals court to overturn the trial judge who struck down Proposition 8 by arguing late Friday that his consideration of evidence was “egregiously selective and one-sided.”

In written arguments to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, lawyers for the ban’s sponsors alleged that Chief U.S. Judge Vaughn Walker “quite willfully” disregarded a 1972 U.S. Supreme Court precedent and other relevant information when he decided the voter-approved measure was an unconstitutional violation of gay Californians’ civil rights.

“The district court based its findings almost exclusively on an uncritical acceptance of the evidence submi…

Bullying…an evil epidemic in our midst

In the last two months there has been a public outcry over the number of GLBT youth who have committed suicide. It is not only brought the issue back into focus for our community but for the world. With celebrities speaking out on the issue and vigils being held across the country we collectively must do all we can to ensure that not only GLBT youth but all youth are not bullied and brought to feeling so hopeless that they feel the only way out is to take their own lives.

Statistically nine out of ten GLBT youth say they have been bullied and GLBT youth are four times more likely to take their own lives than heterosexual youth according to the Massachusetts Youth Risk Survey. In a study led by Dr. Caitlin Ryan and conducted as part of the Family Acceptance…

Gaga speaks, Reid acts on ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Does Lady Gaga run the U.S. Senate?

A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday a vote to repeal the military’s ban of openly gay and lesbian soldiers had been planned for next week before the singer made waves with a plea during a daytime talk show.

The pop star known for flashy performances and eccentric style called on Reid to repeal the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that aired Monday.

Reid’s campaign and Gaga traded talking points on Twitter after the lawmaker announced the vote. Reid told Gaga repealing the measure was the right thing to do.

Campaign spokesman Kelly Steele said Reid does not take cues from Gaga.

Comments from the Web

Kenny Kardashian says:

I, too, served in the Navy and also swore the same oath, not really knowing what lay ahead. While for most people, being gay is dangerous I was lucky to experience minimal discrimination and teasing. However, I was not immune from such teasing. Everyone at my shore duty facility at Naval Air Staton North Island in San Diego knew I was gay and while I made a risky move, when people asked, I told. However, there was no one running to the officer in charge. Most the people that asked me said they were “cool with it”, or others simply just knew.

I am not the most butch guy in the world, but my feminine mannerisms and the way I was did catch the attention of some few people in leadership chain of command around me. They woul…

What are the ways we could expand services and support available to LGBT young people online?

What are the ways we could expand services and support available to LGBT young people online? I have to convince a panel that I'm the person to increase the online reach of a UK-based LGBT youth charity, giving young people greater access to advice, support and opportunities. We want to reach more LGBT young people, particularly those living outside of cities, and to better use the varying resources of the online world to support those that we reach.

I'm already planning to talk about Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, phone, forums & email contact (plus producing videos & podcasts) - though if you have anything specific to offer in how to use these services in this context your help would be welcomed.

I'm more interested in what I'm missing. What novel ways might such an organisation reach out to young people online? Are there social networks/websites I'm not aware of that we might usefully expand into? How could we best use them? Am I thinking too narrowly?

I'm especially interested to hear from anyone who is LGBT who has insight into the kind of online presence and services they would like to see, or would have liked to have been available in their youth. What was missing for you that we could provide for LGBT young people now?

I appreciate this is a pretty open question, but any thoughts, suggestions or advice you can provide would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

how to tell my masculine girlfriend that i like femme presentation?

how to tell my masculine girlfriend that i like femme presentation? I'm a woman who's been dating a great girl for about 6 months. I like her a lot and can see a great life with her however she is more masculine that i prefer. she's stated a number of times that she will dress more femme and states that she has, though not all the time. this has become an issue for me b/c no matter how i try to talk myself out of it (i know it's a social construct), i'm not sexually/physically turned on by this presentation.

I'm a bit resentful b/c i feel a bit led on by her comments like "if you're supportive, i'll dress more femme." i asked her what would be supportive and she said to be complimentary. this is not difficult b/c she has an amazing body and i fawn all over her for it.

her lack of putting on a pair of heels, wearing something other than a sports bra, her defensiveness despite her desire to wear femme stuff lets me know that this is a sensitive subject.

she wants to know about what my hesitation is and i want to tell her in ways that don't hurt her feelings. i wanna say masculine presentation does nothing for me sexually. i wanna say i need to see the softer girlier side sometimes (even though i'd prefer it 24/7). i wanna say that femme presentation allows me to express a diff side of me as well.
idk if it matters but i have a more femme presentation.
any suggestions on how to talk about this?

Stuff Lesbians Like Part 124: Reply-All-colism

What really makes a lesbian more excited than a paparazzo in room full of Kardashians is when she receives a mass email announcing a night on the town or a house party. This is not because she will get to drink cocktails with her friends and thirty other people she barely knows but pretends to be best friends with. It means that she will be able to solidify her position in the entourage by announcing her presence and expressing her thoughts to a built-in audience by pressing ?reply all.?

Happy New Year's and Marry New Queers

My peops! I have had a little tradition of writing to you on New Year's Eve for the last few years and I wanted to keep it going today. As I write this, I'm in my new home in Houston after having lived in Los Angeles for the last 4 years and San Diego 3 years before that. It's also the first day of my new exciting gig--one that I hope will be the first of MANY like this--and a few hours away from being able to hang out with my mom again like I've been able to do the last few weeks.2011 started off SO poorly for me, and then got worse...and worse still. There were definitely some lovely little highlights and I won't complain since I'm still here to talk about it! But what I'm trying to say is that...it got better! :) This, after all, is the year of IT GETS BETTER. We've heard it all year. I've said it to myself and to you guys all year. And now, today, I can say that its happening right before my eyes. I know that a lot of you reading this right now are not feeling well, or are down about something, or may even be downright depressed. I've heard from you all year...and I know there are several others I haven't heard from but are feeling this way. I want you to know that I am here, all of my readers are here, and we're not going anywhere. I need you to stay with us. We lost too many beautiful people to suicide this year (and years past). It's an epidemic. And if I can help stop it from happening (oh man...this is going to sound trite, but I mean it with all of my heart!) to just ONE PERSON, then that would be the proudest moment of my life. It doesn't matter if I ever find out about it or not...if somehow something I can say to you or do or not say or not do will help just one person not go down that path this year, then that makes me the happiest/luckiest girl on earth. And for those of you who are NOT struggling that deeply...who are having a great time in life and who plan to make 2012 YOUR year, I can not WAIT to see it all unfold! Please keep me updated and let me know how awesome things are going for you. Even if you and I have never met before, you mean more to me than I could possibly explain in 365 posts...and I wish wonderful things for you. I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, but I will say I have a new life's resolution to touch and positively affect as many lives as I can. It may just be by making someone smile with a video of a couple of outta control rouge boobs, or as life-altering as helping you find the love of your life, or some bit of advice or helping you connect with the person who can help you with something...or ya know, just that boob thing. But whatever it is, I hope to leave the world a better place than I found it, one day at a time, one person at a time. And...since it looks like I could probably break into 'We Are the World' at ANY moment now, I'm just gonna throw it over to my tried and true:I also wanted to take a moment to speak to anyone who is struggling with their identity. Not going to make this long, cause life is short. ...and that's my point: life is short. We're only here for a short time, and you've got to LIVE. I think my new wife Jessie J says it best:And I'll leave you with this. Let's support this film this year!! It's long overdue:Thank you for 5.5 years...here's to MORE!-Arlan

We've been together for just over a year now and I love her. My partner and parents have met exactly once. My parents are Mormon, and live an hour away.

Since I wrote this question my brother has met the girl of his dreams and they are getting married this weekend. In addition, a bridal shower for my brother's fiancee has come and gone, and my grandpa died two weeks ago.

Navigating this zone of family events has been difficult because these are all events I would want my partner to go with me to, but she is explicitly NOT invited. When I wrote the question in June, I was just thinking of Thanksgiving and the Fourth. I wasn't thinking about the Big Events (i.e. Funerals and Weddings). Silly me.

About a month after I wrote the question to MeFi, my parents and Natasha met for a brief dinner and had a pleasant conversation. It went well enough. They told me later that they thought she was charming that they could tell she made me happy. I took this as a step in the right direction but it was the last direct contact they have had since then.

Since this meeting some events have taken place.

In October, there was a bridal shower for my brother's fiancee that we were both invited to by the fiancee. My mom called me as Natasha and I pulled into the parking lot at the bridal shower. My mom told me Natasha was not welcome. I told her Natasha was invited by the hostess, as I was. Despite her protesting, we went in, had some cider. My mom sulked at a table. We hung out with my sisters and then we left.

Fast forward another month. There was a funeral for my mom's dad this past weekend. My mom told me my partner was not invited. Natasha offered to drive me out of state to the funeral, so I wouldn't have to drive in the same car as my mom- even though she wasn't invited to the funeral. It was hard to walk up to that casket alone.

I don't want Natasha to go where she's not welcome. I don't want her to feel she's not accepted. Plenty of people love us and think we're awesome. But we need to be present when Life Events happen. I don't want to endure Life Events alone without my partner.

TLdr: My brother is getting married this Saturday. Natasha is not invited to the wedding. I am aware that my parents' viewpoint is shocking, outdated even for most Mormons, and just plain tacky. My partner comes first, and my parents' homophobia is ridiculous. I am going to the wedding to support my brother and his new love.

1) What mantra can I repeat to people to explain my mom's bad behavior?
2) How do we get through this?
3) Any advice for the future?

Thank you.

Love Week: Her Name is Lindsey

Her name is Lindsey.  It was supposed to be "Maggie" after the Rod Stewart song but her dad insisted on Lindsey. She makes me laugh every day.  Seriously...On Monday, we had to do some winter storm preparations after our grammar class we take together at SPSU.  Since we live in Georgia where we almost never see the white stuff, we had to go to the grocery store to lay in supplies in the event that ice comes along and causes power outages and roads that can't be driven on.  About a block before we got to the grocery store, there was a mini-shopping cart abandoned on the side of the road near a tree.  As we sat at the light, Lindsey stared at it and said, "That's right, Little Buddy.  Don't you let anyone tell you where you belong."All of our storm prepping reminded me of a time when we had a nasty ice storm on her birthday. The plan was to have our family over for dinner/party/cake but it started getting ugly early in the day and by 1pm, we lost our power and nobody could travel.I was disappointed but Lindsey, ever the introvert, was thrilled.  We had a generator that we used to keep the blower on our fireplace going but we couldn't really use it for anything else.  When it came time to make her birthday cake, I got Lindsey and her EasyBake oven and we baked (by light bulb) the tiniest birthday cake ever known.  We still laugh about that special birthday memory.Today, we are holed up at home with our two dogs, $200 worth of groceries and a DVR full of shows that we need to catch up on.  There is an ice storm of epic proportions outside and I can't think of anything other than how grateful I am to have this time with my daughter - a joy and a blessing to me.

His most noteworthy achievements include serving as the chief organizer of the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, mentoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and helping to form the Southern Christian Leadership Conference SCLC and the A. A Wish for Ukraine: As tensions simmer in Crimea, one gay activist calls for calm -- and human-rights monitors

Opinion: The Crimean Peninsula is an autonomous republic within Ukraine, and the home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet, in Sevastopol, in accordance with a bilateral Ukrainian-Russian agreement. And for LGBT people from all over the former Soviet Union, Crimea is important because of Simeiz, the first and only gay resort anywhere in the former USSR. It's a small town at the southern tip of eastern coast of Crimea. The first nude beach was founded here in 1950s, and the gay fame of Simeiz goes as far back as to the '70s when homosexuality was still criminally prosecuted and hundreds of Soviet gays were jailed each year. Today, thousands of gay travelers come here to relax and play every summer. I was there twice, in 2002 and 2012, and was planning to return soon with my husband. I'm not sure now if that's going to be possible. ... (more)

Republicans block bill to lift military gay ban

WASHINGTON(AP) – Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked an effort by Democrats and the White House to lift the ban on gays from serving openly in the military, voting unanimously against advancing a major defense policy bill that included the provision.

The mostly partisan vote dealt a major blow to gay rights groups who saw the legislation as their best hope, at least in the short term, for repeal of the 17-year-old law known as “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

If Democrats lose seats in the upcoming congressional elections this fall, as many expect, repealing the ban could prove even more difficult - if not impossible - next year. The Senate could take up the measure again during a lame-duck session after the elections, but a spokesm…

Happy Valentine's Day

We have arrived at the end of love week.  I highlighted the people who I have the most mad love for - my parents and children.  I was thinking about this the other day - this is the first Valentine's Day since I was a teenager that I have not been in a relationship on Valentine's Day.  And it feels so fucking good.  I spent the last few years trying to save a relationship that was never going to work.  It was exhausting, frustrating and heart-breaking.  It was physically painful. My therapist, Tanya, helped me sort out my grief - the loss of my marriage and the terminal diagnosis of my father.  It helped me in so many ways but the best one was allowing me to see that what I was clinging to was not really love.  That revelation really equipped me to shift my mental focus, stop feeling guilty for my failures and close that door for good so I could move on.Moving ForwardSince that time, I have met some incredible people.  I have new friends and met some amazing women.  I am enjoying getting to know them and each one brings something new to the table. I reconnected with an old friend who has a real gift in the nurturing department.  She has an endless supply of love and affection and having her back in my life again is exactly what I needed right now.  It feels really good to be able to open myself up to someone who returns the favor - who is real, raw and vulnerable.  She is 150% woman and I can't seem to soak up enough of her feminine energy.I made a connection with a fellow blogger who has been secretly following me for several years.  She finally reached out and we have had the best conversations.  It's so strange how the universe conspires to plant people in your life at certain times for certain reasons.  This is one of those people who was planted and I'm so glad to have her ear.   I also had one of those chance encounters that people have in movies.  I struck up a conversation with a pretty girl and, within 45 minutes, I knew I would want to have her in my life.  The friendship that we have built has been fun and exciting and has a lot of possibilities. She is going to be a part of my inner circle in one way or another. I met the smartest, coolest kid that I love to go have a beer with while we discuss all things lesbian. I met the most servant-minded woman who has such a love for people.  She inspires me by her inner strength and her drive to overcome her past. I have been given the best advice from an internationally known therapist who I am so proud to call my friend.   I retain my mad love for my core friends - they never fail me.  Always there, ready to circle the wagons.   I am surrounded by strong, beautiful, loving, giving, intelligent, funny women. I am SO BLESSED to have this collective pool of awesomeness to drink from at will!Take AwayLove is pain.  It hurts.  When you put yourself out there and allow yourself to love, you are going to get hurt.  I was hurt. I was hurt repeatedly. I was hurt deeply.  People leave.  People suffer and you have to suffer with them.  They have hurdles and sorrow and you worry for them.  It hurts to love someone and watch them face trials and to know you can do nothing.  You just have to sit there with them and share their pain.  It hurts to love people. But... not giving in to the desire to protect yourself by not loving again is what everyone should strive for.  Because allowing new people into your life and allowing yourself to have feelings for them, whether romantic or friendly, is a gift. It's a gift to you and a gift to them. They make you laugh.  They listen when you talk and offer advice when you ask for it.  They send sexy texts.  They remember days that are important to you.  They ask you to be present and invite you to share intimacy and be vulnerable with them.  They are possibilities.  They add value and joy to your life.  They become the reason that you don't let the loss of one of them destroy you.Allow yourself to love.  Don't hold it against someone new what someone in your past did to you.  Give everyone new the benefit of a doubt.  Give everyone you love a second chance when they screw up (but not a third chance - that would just be stupid).  Finally, give every new possibility the room to become what it is supposed to be.

The Compton’s Cafeteria riot

“This is gay San Francisco. An inside look at the life of San Francisco’s homosexuals. They number 90,000— at least according to police department figures. They work to hide their sexual orientation by day, and only at night do they show their true colors.

The city’s downtown Tenderloin District is the home ground of the always visible segment of the city’s homosexuals and transvestites. The drag queens are here at Turk and Taylor.

So frequent were the fights between screaming queens in the 2 to 3 a.m. period that police — even in permissive San Francisco — had had enough, and asked an all night cafeteria to close by midnight.”

So began the 2005 documentary “Screaming Queens; The Riot at the Compton&rs…

Study finds more gay characters on network TV

NEW YORK (AP) – The number of gay and bisexual characters on scripted broadcast network TV has risen slightly this season to 23 out of a total of nearly 600 roles, according to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

The 15th annual “Where We Are on TV” report released Wednesday found that 3.9 percent of actors appearing regularly on prime-time network drama and comedy series in the 2010-11 season will portray gay, lesbian or bisexual characters.

That’s up from 3 percent in the 2009-10 season. The increase in 2008-09 was 2.6 percent.

Only six of the 23 gay and lesbian characters this season are nonwhite, GLAAD found.

Using information provided by ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and CW, the group reviewed 84 scripted series announced…

Is Simon Cowell Gay?

With the X-factor back on prime time TV in Britain, all of the tabloids are busy scraping up as much muck as they can and slinging it at everyone in the hope it will stick to someone. This week it was Simon Cowell's turn. Tough as an old leather handbag, Simon Cowell is not going to blink an eye at the rumours going around that he is gay.

I don't think Cowell is on anyones gaydar, but co judge Louis Walsh this week cleared it up for us, stating this week that his 51-year-old friend is easily "distracted by a pair of breasts".

Lois Walsh told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper this week that, "He's not gay. Not at all. He's camp. He's theatrical. But he's absolutely not gay. No way. He loves women. Haven't you seen the way he looks at girls? He'll get distracted by a pair of breasts."

Well I guess that clears it up then.

Sad Neighbor: A Meme for the Masses

This is me with my neighbor, Ande.  She moved in next door last year and we ended up sharing the worst summer of our lives together as we both went through painful break-ups.  In the process, we bonded like sisters and are as thick as thieves.See?  Here we are: thick thieves who are fiercely loyal with mad love for each other:  As we both processed our broken hearts and moved on with our new lives, there were still bumps in the road - especially for her.  She has been struggling to overcome some hurdles and each time she seemed to be hitting her stride, something would happen to bring her back down into Bummer Town.  When I started dating New Girl, I introduced her to Ande and they fell in love. Since we make a fun threesome, Ande goes out with New Girl and I often.  One thing that New Girl and I noticed, though, is that Ande tends to be in a perpetual funk, spending a large amount of time talking about the woes in her life and generally being a Debbie Downer.  New Girl mentioned to me that she always had a sad face and the other night at dinner, NG snapped a pic of the typical look that we have been subjected to seeing on Ande's face lately:(That's fucking sad, isn't it?)NG, always attracting people with her positive outlook, energy, friendliness and charm, showed it to Ande so Ande could see the negative crap that she is putting out into the universe and try to make some changes.  I, on the other hand, thought it would be fun to start manipulating the pic and sending her shots of herself wearing and doing odd things to make her smile, or at least show her that a frown looks like shit no matter how you dress it up.NG and I got started today and here is what we came up with:Enlarging her boobs:Next, she got a bob hair cut and some nerdy glasses:  Nothing is sexier than a Geisha Girl, right?  WRONG! Pirates are usually full of swash-buckling confidence and chasing after booty.  Not this one:  She could be a singer in an 80's new wave band and it still won't make her happy...   Even just being girl with the unique ability to offer mustache rides doesn't excite her...I ask my readers, what can you do to make my sad neighbor smile?  Please use the above pic and add your own special touch to my "Sad Neighbor" meme.  I'll post them here and credit you, link to your blog or Twitter, and send them to Ande to see if they will make her smile.  SHARE THIS POST on your Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr... help me get the word out!Use the contact form on this blog to reach me, let me know you want to participate and I will message you back with where to send.  LET'S MAKE ANDE SMILE!

Can love actually solve our disputes?

How can the virgin get over not being the first for her partner? I've been with my (lesbian) partner for a year and half. Our life is great together, but we have been arguing the topic of past and sex for about a year.

My partner and I come from very different backgrounds. We're both in our early 30s. This is my first (serious) relationship ever.

Her history: She comes from a very dysfunctional family and started having sex in her early teens. Those early years, until she was 17 or so, she had been with males. Many of them even lived with her in her parent's house. She then came out as gay and had her first girlfriend. After that she had a long-term relationship with another female, which lasted several years. Then, even though she labeled herself gay, she had a one-year relationship with a male. After that, she had another long-term relationship with a female, whom she married when it was legal. All this, strung together with one-night stands.

My history: I grew up like an only child, with my siblings being much older than myself and moved out, with a single mother. I was I was shy, but came out of my shell living abroad for a year after college. I never dated in high school or college; I was happy enough doing my own thing, and didn't even really think about dating. I never got lonely and, to this day, still like/need a lot of alone time. It was during my mid-twenties that I started dating both men and women. I thought of myself has bisexual when I was in my mid-teens. Although I was pretty sure I was gay, and have never been ashamed of my sexual orientation. But until this relationship, I was a virgin. I really wanted to be in a relationship before I had sex with someone. And I wanted that someone to be one I cared for deeply.

I had liked a lot of the women I dated, and even wanted relationships with them, but many times I was shrugged off and treated inappropriately. As a romantic and sensitive person, I took these heartbreaks very hard, even though they didn't "go anywhere" in most people's eyes.

Now, my partner is the type of person is very anecdotal. She used to tell many stories concerning her past. Initially, I didn't have any problems with this. But over time, it really started to bother me. The fact that she was lived with a male, especially after being with women and saying she knew she was gay, was a red flag for me, but all of her qualities, I thought, trumped this fact.

It seems her speaking about her past relationships kind of dug a little insecure hole in me. I wondered why I didn't have any luck in relationships, why it seemed so hard for me to be loved when I put myself on the line and never got anything back. At times, I think that I may be jealous that she got to experience the good and bad in relationships, and even though I tried, I didn't get to experience that. That she got to experience really good things with other people, and she has all of my "firsts".

And since not having experienced sex before her, and now knowing what it's like, I've had trouble not letting my imagination get the best of me about her past relationships. I've had horrible images of all the sex she's had with men, and it bothers me so much. If she slept with a guy three times and figured out it wasn't for her, then that's okay. But 10 guys who were 2 to 6 month "relationships"... That is a lot of sex. It's not so much the number, but the fact that she kept doing it and saying in retrospect that she wasn't really into them. I can't even watch porn anymore because I see women who look similar to her in compromising positions, and it makes my stomach turn.

I also think maybe I have trouble with her past choices, and her values on sex and relationships. (I don't think I'm judging her necessarily because I have friends with similar histories, and I'm fine with them.) She's told me her values have changed, and she wouldn't even have casual sex because she's put herself through some bad things in the past, and she says she has a higher self-esteem and self-respect now. But just two months prior to meeting her, she had a summer fling with someone. How can I trust that her values have changed so drastically in that short amount of time?

Admittedly, most of our issues stem from me not fully trusting her. Our fights generally surround the topic of sex, and has made our once-great sex (she says I'm the best she's ever experienced) life now a little wobbly.

I think she is an amazing person. When we first met, our date lasted for hours and we talked about everything. I accept her past as fact, but these images are disturbing. Will they ever go away? Can love actually solve our disputes?

JFK'S Contribution to Women's Rights -- and What He Might Want Us to Do Next

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/terry-oneill/jfks-contribution-to-wome_b_4321030.htmlTerry O'Neill writes for The Huffington Post: "There's another 50th anniversary in the life of President John F. Kennedy that's important to remember today.

Just a few weeks before his death, on October 11, 1963, President Kennedy received the final report of the President's Commission on the Status of Women. A direct line runs between the work of this commission and the establishment of the National Organization for Women."

The spark that ignited the flame…that led future GLBT generations out of the dark

What a list we have this year for the fifth anniversary of GLBT History Month. It would be impossible to cover all of those who have done so much for our community as every day we make history through our actions, even the smallest and simplest ones. Those who are honored this year are some of the more high profile GLBT’s that have, either in the past or present, found the strength, courage and will to help drive our rights forward. Each and every one of them should be honored and are worthy of our attention.

But without taking away from those we are honoring where is the sixteen year old who came out against all the odds and made something of himself giving back to his community at the same time? Is he not part of our history, or does he not count a…

How to work in/move to a gay supportive country where same-sex marriage is legal?

I'm looking to work in/maybe move to, a country where same-sex marriage is legal and gay people are treated equally. Any recommendations? Any advice from expatriates?

I've been in a committed and loving relationship with my partner for over 6 years. Looking forward, I would like to move to a country where I can get married, live, work, raise a family and be openly gay in a country with as much respect from the law and the community as everyone else. I'm lucky to be well-qualified and am considered talented in my work, with a Master's, several published papers, and a Bachelor's from an Ivy League university in Electrical Engineering and Physics, and 6 years of work experience as an expert on solar energy and semiconductor technology. I've business consulting experience and am trilingual, in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Unfortunately I also grew up in a place where most gay people are closeted at work and society. Most gay people face heavy and regular discrimination and ignorance in most major areas of life, from the law, society, employment, family, to the government. It's a daily toll to be closeted, and it's very difficult to have a home of your own if you're gay, not to mention raise a family.

I would like to work in a city/country where I can be out, equal, and have my children proud to tell their schoolmates they have two mothers. Of course, I would like to be able to have my partner join me as soon as possible.

Preferably this is a place where, while same-sex marriage is legal, gay people are treated the same as straight people, and it's easy for new people to fit in. A place where people don't avert their eyes when you hold hands with your partner in public, don't blink when you tell them you're gay, and you and your partner are invited, as a matter of course, to straight friends' homes. It'd be good if it's a city or place open to different races and cultures.

What would your advice be? What cities, places and companies to work for would you recommend?

If you've moved cities or countries before with your partner, what was your experience? How did you secure a job in a new city? What did you do to make new friends and get used to a new culture? How did you and your partner make such a huge life change as easily manageable and successful as possible?

Life Beyond Therapy

Is Monogamy outdated?
In this age of almost-legal GLBT marriage, many of my coupled clients are examining traditional heterosexual marriage-based relationships and finding them lacking. Other people, however, think that the idea of “emotional monogamy and sexual non-monogamy” is just a cop-out, a way to rationalize not being faithful to your partner.

While this is a controversial issue, it’s a great opportunity for us GLBTers to be social pioneers and make our own way. We can critically analyze what heterosexist society has pushed on us for the past two hundred years or so. For many of us, the model of a traditional monogamous “marriage” isn’t a good fit, no matter how many movies or TV shows tell us that a “faithful” marriage is…

Modern Families

Before I dive into my first column
I want to thank all my Facebook friends who contributed to the name of what I hope will become a very popular weekly feature column in The G&L Times. I needed all the help I could get. I’m a show producer, not a writer. One of the performers in my touring show “iL CiRCo” came up with the name: “Mary Has A Little Man”. I always thought Chris was cute, amazingly talented and has an Adonis of a body, but he’s a total smart ass (I don’t say “Smart-aleck” anymore as it has completely different connotations in my life which I will discuss in further detail later). I do appreciate Chris’ wit and humor… I just can’t see myself as “Mary”, you know? Other names that made it to t…
