Ushering in the New Year at Atlanta's Hip W Midtown

I'm spending Christmas this weekend with my parents just outside Atlanta, and then road-tripping to the progressive college town of Athens, the historic coastal city of Savannah, and then sunny St. Petersburg, Florida, where I'm celebrating New Year's with friends. I'll then continue driving down Florida's Gulf Coast for a three-day visit to Key West, catching up on what's changed here in my favorite town in Florida since my last visit, in summer 2007. It's my idea of a perfect winter adventure, but I confess I was a bit tempted to stay in Atlanta over New Year's.
