Bed and Breakfast Denies Gay Couple a Reservation

A Virginia couple was denied lodging at a local bed and breakfast after the receptionist discovered the two were a couple. Russell Williams and David Schaefer, who have been together for 40 years, were trying to make a reservation at Stafford House in Fairfax, Va., as part of the trip for the their nephew's wedding, but when the receptionist discovered they were a couple she said "Well, we don't accept non-traditional couples." "There were no harsh words, " Williams told reporters. "Apparently the husband is a minister and it's a religion-based policy that they have." Virginia State Del. Adam Ebbin, a candidate for a Virginia State Senate seat and the only openly gay member of the General Assembly, called the incident "an embarrassment to Virginia."
