Study Shows Record Majority of New Yorkers Support Marriage Equality

A new Quinnipiac study shows that a majority of New Yorkers statewide support full marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples, by the largest margin ever of 56 percent to 37 percent opposed. This is an increase from 2009?s record of 51 percent who supported marriage. ?Gov. Cuomo didn?t make a big issue of same-sex marriage in his State of the State speech, but he said he was for it and so are most New Yorkers,? pointed out poll director Maurice Carroll. Detailed results included 69% of Democrats and 55% of independent voters who supported marriage. In the city, 55% of all voters support marriage equality. ?This is the last vestige of institutionalized bigotry that?s left in this country and we need to get rid of it,? commented Robert Kennedy Jr. in a video. Governor Andrew Cuomo has said that he plans to push for marriage equality legislation.Related Media Coverage:New York Daily News ?
