Amar en Tiempos Revueltos - season 5, recap 9

Remember how last week Teresa walked in on Rosa being comforted by Ana? Yeah. Teresa keeps playing that unfortunate moment in her head as well. And by the look on her face she’s still none too pleased about it either.

An employee asks how Ana is doing, and Teresa says that she’s fine and that Ana is still in her office, but that she’s very busy (with Rosa, but she doesn’t tell her that).

Moments later Ana and Rosa walk out of Ana’s office so that they can go to Rosa’s audition. Teresa overhears them talking from a small distance. Rosa is telling Ana she doesn’t need to come with her and Rosa says that everybody should be as lucky to have Ana accompany them. Ana responds by telling Rosa that she’s not ‘everybody’.

Ouch. That stings.

When Ana returns, Teresa is doing inventory and is still quite upset with Ana. Ana, however, is none the wiser and asks why Teresa is still there. It takes Teresa a lot of strength to turn around and face Ana. She tells Ana that she’s very busy working on the inventory. Teresa ignores Ana when she asks why Teresa is behaving so weird, but Teresa says it is fine and that nothing is going on.

Oh you two. Just kiss and get it over with, will you.

We get a myriad of scenes where Héctor is defending his choice to stand up for an abused child and continues investigating the case, Ana discussing Teresa’s weird behavior and Teresa discussing Ana’s unusual behavior i.e. not as sincere or affectionate as she used to be.

A day or so later Alfonso reads a damaging article in the newspaper about his father being in prison and how this affects, or could affect, his boxing career. Héctor is convinced his boss is sending him a message about him investigating the child abuse case and isn’t very happy.

Teresa later confronts Ana about the article how she could have and should have stopped it from being printed. Ana, however, tries to pretend her nose is bleeding and tells Teresa it wouldn’t matter either way. After all, what was written is true. Teresa cannot believe what she is hearing and leaves in a huff, leaving an upset and surprised Ana behind.

At the café, Alfonso is being confronted by his rival about the article who keeps taunting Alfonso about his father being in prison until Alfonso finally snaps and hits him in the face.

Ana, meanwhile, is having dinner with Rosa and the two are glad for a different scenery and different company. It turns out that Rosa didn’t get the part she wanted. Ana tells her that “life’s that way” and that sometimes we attach more importance to things we don’t even have. Ana and Rosa get a little too close for comfort, but I guess this is the writer’s way of keeping things on edge.

A little later, Nono comes rushing in asking Ana if she heard the news about what happened to Alfonso, but she clearly doesn’t as she wasn’t even there and too busy to notice anything but Rosa. Nono tells what happened and Ana hurries off to find Alfonso.

Nono meanwhile stays a bit to tease and pester Rosa about having ulterior motives, and though Rosa doesn’t deny anything, she looks a bit upset about it too. It seems that her conscience may be having a bit of a turf war.

At home, Teresa and Héctor are discussing the abuse case; it seems that there was a certain father involved, and not the blood relative kind of father. Teresa warns Héctor that it will be his downfall if he proves the father abused the boy.

Later at the Stores things are still a bit chilly between Ana and Teresa. Teresa wasn’t feeling well the day before and took a day off and Ana is checking in on how she was doing (being pregnant and all), but Teresa says she is fine now.

Rosa and Ana, however, continue to bond. Ana tells her of a friendship that is crumbling (the one with Teresa of course) and Rosa tries to make Ana laugh because she is too serious.

Meanwhile, Rosa has been making friendlies with the Marquis of Pontina and introduces him to Ana when she spots him during their conversation.

Teresa has a conversation with a co-worker about Ana. The co-worker is concerned that Ana is losing interest in the work she is doing.

Teresa later goes to Ana’s office and rummages through her desk. She finds a picture of her and Ana when the two were in the earlier stages of their friendship and she flashes back to some happier moments between the two of them… including the elevator kiss!

“Happy times”, she tells herself. “Where did they go?” Indeed, Teresa, where did those happy times go?

Ana, meanwhile, is out with Rosa and friends, but she’s not having that much fun. She says she’s worried about Alfonso because he hasn’t shown up yet, but Rosa tells her that he might just be training.

At the Stores, Teresa and a co-worker have some news about José Maria (where’s he been?) to tell to a close friend of his, his baby’s momma (though no one knows that seeing as how he is totally married to someone else). José Maria is, as it turns out, dead. The girl faints and clutches her stomach.

We flash to Alfonso and Ana having an argument about him standing her up at the get together and says to him that she thinks it is a much bigger thing that they are dealing with – she questions whether or not he regrets marrying her.

At the Stores, Teresa is talking to Rosa’s friend about the attention the Marquis of Pontina is giving Rosa and the friend tells Teresa that a girl as lonely as Rosa should be given attention like that.

An older woman walks up to the two and asks where “the slut”  (meaning Rosa) that they are usually with has gone. Uh oh. Something tells me that this is NOT good news. The woman spots Rosa by the elevator and walks up to her – turns out that this woman is the wife of the Marquis of Pontina.

Teresa later retells the story in full detail to Ana. You can clearly see that Teresa is completely amused by it all. She really doesn’t like Rosa. Ana tells her that Teresa should have prevented it because it is not good for the integrity of the Stores and also orders Teresa to make sure that they will fully reimburse the Marquis of Pontina for all the stuff he has bought at the Stores.

Alfonso is having a heart-to-heart with his brother in law Héctor and tells him that he thinks Ana is the one who regretted marrying him.

Back at the Stores Ana, Teresa and a co-worker are discussing the funeral for José Maria and wonder if Ana will go. Ana tells them that of course she is going; he was an employee after all. The co-worker says she’ll order the wreath and Teresa, a bit conniving, asks whether or not the co-worker asked what Ana wants to be written on the ribbon of the wreath. Ana does not like being upstaged like that.

Still a bit upset, Ana isn’t too pleased with Héctor when he gives her a call about Alfonso and she asks him politely, albeit firmly, to stay out of her and Alfonso’s business and that if there is something to be sorted out, it’ll be between herself and Alfonso.

At work the next day, Ana backs out of going to the funeral and Teresa lies about having told Rosa about the gifts. Rosa later shows up with those gifts and things get a bit fuzzy for me here. Rosa wants to return the gifts, despite the reimbursed money for the Marquis. Teresa is adamant that Ana wants her to have them. There’s a bit of a standoff and Rosa tells her that she doesn’t want anything from the Marquis and leaves the presents.

When Ana later returns, she is surprised to find the gifts there and asks the other co-worker what is going on. Ana, from then on, is convinced Teresa has been lying to her about the gifts and goes to the funeral to confront Teresa. They both accuse each other of being different and having changed. It’s not a pretty sight. Not to mention that they’re doing it at the funeral of José Maria.

Teresa tells Ana that she has seen her change since Rosa came in the picture and Ana then accuses Teresa of not being a good friend.

Teresa asks what happened to Ana that she used to be so caring and good with her friends and that now she’s giving her friends and even Alfonso the cold shoulder. The two come to a standstill over Ana’s marriage to Alfonso and Ana walks away, clearly upset.

Next week:
We are now entering what I’d like to call ‘the dark ages’. Ana and Teresa are still cold towards each other, but it’s killing them both on the inside. Teresa is taking up new ventures, Héctor is transferred, and Rosa has gone and got herself attached to a brothel. Read previous recaps here.
