Milwaukee's Cool Continues to Rise

Among a slew of U.S. cities that declined steadily following World War II and have experienced varying degrees of revitalization over the past 10 to 15 years, Milwaukee is unquestionably one of the most dramatic comeback stories. Since I first visited this mid-sized city (population 600,000) in the early 1990s, I've continued to be impressed with the steady addition of terrific new restaurants, hotels, and museums, and the renaissance of several formerly prosaic or decrepit neighborhoods (Bay View, the Historic Third Ward, and the gay-nightlife hub of Walker's Point, for example).
